The fashion industry works with a time lag. In spring and summer, it's all about thick jumpers and warm hats. And while it's wet, dark and cold outside, creative minds pore over the designs for the new swimwear collection - everything has to be in the shops on time.
I haven't followed this principle so far. Instead, I've always knitted in real time whatever was appropriate at the time. A cosy scarf for tea on the sofa. The summer top over iced coffee outside on the terrace. It felt good. Knitting is slow fashion - wonderful and sustainable! Only sometimes it was so slow - or rather: I was, that the season was almost over before the knitted piece was finished.
Highly motivated, I therefore decided back in autumn to plan my knitting projects better in future. I wanted to work on several knitted pieces at the same time and always have the right thing on my needles for every situation. Because once you've decided on the pattern, yarn and colour and the gauge is right, then comes the really enjoyable part: the knitting.
The more uncomfortable the miserable weather was, the more I looked forward to spring and summer. My longing for warmth and lightness became more bearable at the thought of being able to knit beautiful new pieces as soon as the first rays of sunshine came out.
I was certain that the first thing I had to knit for my daughter was the beautiful Svala Top from knitbyTrineP. Because I've loved it ever since I saw it in her book Nordic. Unfortunately, it didn't work out last year, so I started my personal summer knitting season with it this time. With the Lovely Merino Treat and 4 mm needles, I reached the exact gauge, and the colour pink orchid goes perfectly with the romantic lace and ruffle details. A dream for my little girl! I wish I could still wear something like this...
The Rigmor Tee from PetiteKnit is much more sporty, but also has a simple lace pattern. I like the fact that it is classic and simple, but has a slightly feminine touch thanks to the lace pattern. This design can also be realised wonderfully with 4 mm needles and the Lovely Merino Treat. I chose the colour Tea because I think this shade from the Moods palette would look great with jeans or coloured long skirts
.We also have wonderful designs for warm days in our knitwear pattern shop. Lightweight shawls, such as the quick-knit Contact or the pastel-coloured Tahniah, liven up many a summer outfit. My favourites among the tops are the simple top Mengeti, the airy jumper Kairaku and the cardigans Veselie and Be Mine, which go beautifully with dresses
.I've started my biggest project with the latter, the Be Mine Cardigan from Matilda Kruse: This is going to be a true long-term relationship. I found it difficult to choose the colour, as the Cheeky Merino Joy is available in Pure, Moods and Melange shades. Blue whale? Melange Sage? Cedar? Or perhaps melange honey cake?
After some deliberation, I chose the wonderfully warm caramel because I've always wanted a long golden yellow cosy jacket with pockets. I usually choose subtle shades, but this knit is intended to bring some colour into my life. And the lace pattern on the back will also add some variety - both to my knitting and to my outfit. It will be a real treat when the cardigan warms me up on warm summer evenings.
I'm very happy with my four summer projects. I finished the top really quickly and I've been knitting the three tops for myself in parallel since winter. Maybe you'll feel inspired to knit something summery too. Or maybe you've just got the urge to plan your next knitting projects early and then start the next season freshly knitted... Have fun planning, knitting and wearing!
