Ating

Ating wraps around your shoulders like a cosy hug. The generous shawl by Inese Sang from our Big Merino Hug provides cosy warmth with its classic triangular shape in all its different wearing options. The Moods colour copper beech and large lace diamonds on the bottom edge make Ating almost a statement piece. The pattern is also a great introduction to more sophisticated designs. The accentuated centre line and subtle rib pattern give Ating a clearly structured appearance and also provide variety when knitting the simple main section.

You start Ating with a three-sided cast-on and knit from the top centre outwards. The triangular shape is created by increasing evenly along the top edge and on both sides of the centre line. The beautiful large diamonds on the final edge make Ating very interesting even for experienced knitters. You can either follow the written instructions or the knitting charts. The top edge of the shawl in garter stitch forms a beautifully even finish.

The finished shawl is approx. 200 cm wide and 85 cm at the deepest point (after stretching).

You will need 4 skeins of Big Merino Hug (341 g). The quantities apply according to the knit sample. The knitted piece shown was knitted with the colour red beech.

Needles: 5.5 mm circular knitting needle, 120 cm long. Adjust the needle size if necessary to achieve the stitch gauge.

Ating was designed for our 2021 collection, to which Rosy gave the theme of touch. This year, we have all become particularly aware of the importance of interpersonal closeness and touch. However, it is also becoming increasingly clear that we belong together worldwide and that we are also touched by what happens on the other side of the globe. The names of our instructions express this in different languages. Ating comes from Romanian and means I touch.
