Classic elegance meets meditative knitting - the scarf Sagesse by designer Emma Ducher is an accessory that goes with any look and envelops you in warmth with its generous width. Its delicate chequerboard pattern is equally beautiful on both sides and is created simply by combining knit and purl stitches. It is easy to memorise and –like a mantra– allows you to get into a concentrated flow while knitting. Our Lovely Merino Treat in the colour Ruby underlines the royal structure with its soft volume, and an I-cord edge around the whole design forms the crowning finish.

You knit Sagesse flat, starting with a provisional cast-on for the I-cord, which forms the short edge of the shawl. You then pick up stitches from this border for the main section. The textured pattern consists of squares in stockinette, reverse stockinette and moss stitch, for which you only knit and purl stitches. At the same time, you continue knitting the I-cord on both side edges and finish the scarf by casting off with an I-cord. The ends of the I-cord edge are grafted together for a seamless finish.

The finished scarf is approx. 175 cm (69 in) long and 40,5 cm (16.25 in) wide after blocking.

You need 4 skeins of Lovely Merino Treat (399 gi). The indicated yarn quantities apply according to the gauge. The garment in the images is knitted with the colour Ruby.

Needles:

  • 4 mm (US 6) 60 cm (24 in) circular needle
  • 1 pair 4 mm (US 6) double-pointed needles for working an I-cord

Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Sagesse is a design from our 2023 collection. In these turbulent times, there is much cause for reflection. And especially the desire for serenity and calm, for light-heartedness and peace. We have therefore named the designs in this collection after this longing, in different languages. The French word Sagesse means wisdom.
