Level of difficulty: easy - medium

Settle in for an easy, relaxed knitting experience - the Sakina hat by Emma Ducher has charisma and beautiful details. The two-colour Brioche pattern, with its typical effect, gives our Lovely Merino Treat even more cosy volume and allows you to play with stunning contrasts. Find your individual colour balance for the irresistible vertical stripes and enjoy the squishy softness between your fingers. Sakina is the perfect introduction to this wonderful technique.

You start Sakina with a long tail cast-on and then work from the bottom up. You knit the two-colour Brioche pattern with only one colour per round alternating them. The crown of the hat is shaped with centred 4-stitch decreases.

The hat is available in three sizes: S [M, L] to fit head circumferences of 46-51 [51-56, 56-61] cm (18-20 [20-22, 22-24] in).

You need 2 skeins of Lovely Merino Treat, 1 skein (28 [34, 41] g) of each colour. The indicated gram quantities apply according to the gauge. The consumption for the swatch is included in the skein specifications. The knitted piece in the images is knitted with the colours Cedar and Haze.

Needles:

  • 3.25 mm (US 3) 40 cm (16 in) circular needle and double-pointed needles for working a small circumference in the round
  • 4 mm (US 6) 40 cm (16 in) circular needle

Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Sakina is a design from our 2023 collection. In these turbulent times, there is much cause for reflection. And especially the desire for serenity and calm, for light-heartedness and peace. We have therefore named the designs in this collection after this longing, in different languages. The Arabic word Sakina describes a state of peace of mind.
