Zig-Zags have been a vital part of Martina Behm’s journey as a knitwear designer. With Sophiste, she shows her love for them again: a rectangular stole with broad chevron stripes. “And just because it’s so much fun and looks awesome”, she says, the design is knitted on the bias. Our Lovely Merino Treat gives Sophiste nice volume and cuddly softness, making it the perfect companion to wear around your shoulders on cooler summer days or as an extra warm scarf underneath your coat in winter. The design allows for lots of playing around with colours and contrasts to personalise your shawl.

The rectangular shawl is knitted on the bias from corner to corner, and can be modified in width and length. Stitch markers in different colours help you with the chevron stripes that are formed with increases and decreases. The crochet cast-on worked at the beginning of each new colour is explained in the tutorial part of the pattern with pictures for support.

The finished shawl is approx. 152 cm (60 in) wide and 31 cm (12 in) from top to bottom after blocking.

You will need 4 skeins of Lovely Merino Treat, 1 skein for each colour. The indicated yarn quantities apply according to the gauge.

The garment in the images is knitted with the colours Isar Pebble, Edelweiss, Pufferfish and Red Beech.

Needles: 4 mm (US6) 80 cm (32 in) circular needle. Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
