Update 9. October: We have received helpful feedback and have subsequently updated the call concerning the details, the rights to the pattern and to the sample garment. The designer may sell the pattern after a year and we will return the sample piece.
We are looking for design submissions for our new FW 2020/21 collection for 5 garment designs and 3 accessory designs that will showcase our four existing yarn lines - Cheeky Merino Joy, Big Merino Hug, Merino d’Arles and Manx Merino Fine as well as several new colours still to be released. We are seeking and encouraging design submissions from designers of all & any race, gender, sexual orientation, age, religion, ability or country of origin.
The Details
We have prepared a Pinterest moodboard to show the overall inspiration for our collection, as well as design briefs for each individual style. As this is our first in house collection, we have a desired aesthetic of garment/accessory type(s) that we wish to achieve.. Therefore the individual style briefs describe some aspects we are looking for in exact detail, but we still want designers to bring in creativity and are interested to see what designers come up with that meet these criteria. For a copy of the style briefs please email Becky Baker at [email protected] with your expression of interest in applying.

Rosy Green Wool Customer
Rosy Green Wool customers are mainly aged between 35-65 living in Western and Northern Europe and North America. They may not be extremely trend driven but have an aspiration for modern stylish knitwear with an appreciation for high quality yarn and design. They are caring and compassionate, environmentally and health conscious and enjoy the fulfilling pursuit of their knitting hobby. Our customers prefer to knit seamless designs whether that be bottom up or top down but preferably with limited seaming.
Submission Requirements
You are welcome to submit more than one design. For each design, please submit a one or two page A4 document in PDF format.
Each submission should include:
- A short description of the design and construction and how it relates to our collection inspiration.
- Image of a knitted swatch (no smaller than 5x5”) showing repeats of pattern used. Please knit in a yarn that has the same gauge as the Rosy Green Wool yarn that you are pitching your design to be created in.
- A design sketch (this can be hand drawn or CAD based).
- Gauge and yardage required.
- Key measurements, sizes and ease.
- Any other information you feel is important to the design.
- Information about you, why you want to work with Rosy Green Wool and your credentials - IG, Blog, Website, Ravelry etc.
Once we have received all submissions we will be selecting the best designs that will work well together and meet our collection briefs. If you have been successful we will be looking for you to provide a fully graded pattern and written according to our given stylesheet. The designer will also supply the knitted sample in size (TBC) as the final deliverables. The designer is the owner of the sample and we will send it back one year after the release date, unless we have otherwise agreed with the designer that we shall continue promoting the knitted piece through trunk shows.
Fees will range from €300 - €500 depending on whether it is a garment or accessory and relative complexity and will be paid after tech editing. Rosy Green Wool will retain exclusivity only for one year beginning with the release date. After this period designers may sell the patterns (both English and German versions).. Rosy Green Wool will handle all tech editing, schematics, language translation, styling, photography and graphic design, pattern support for customers and any errata updates.
